Meet the Artist
Visual artist Nikki Moon is best known for her afro-celestial drawings and paintings – both of which she creates under the handle HeySheDraws. She describes her work as “afro-celestial” because she can’t seem to declare any piece finished without adding a few astral elements to it. Her work portrays the strength and beauty of people of color through the use of bold colors, a subtle darkness, and out-of-this-world themes. HeySheDraws recently added handmade gemstone jewelry to her repertoire and uses the same afro-celestial approach when pairing stones and charms for each of her wearable creations.
Born and raised in Long Island, NY, Nikki currently resides in Maryland where she received a degree in Elementary Education from Bowie State University. A former K-5 art teacher, she now spends her days as a painting instructor and her nights working on commissions and personal projects. HeySheDraws has participated as a vendor in many fesitvals and shows, including Broccoli City Festival (Washington D.C.), Afropunk Festival (Brooklyn and Atlanta), and countless local events.
Nikki has had a pencil in one hand and a paintbrush in the other for as long as she can remember. Aside from art, some of her other interests include cooking, playing instruments, gardening, and caring for animals. Nikki aims to do two things with her artwork: create smiles and inspire others! Her work can be found online at heyshedraws.com or on Instagram and Twitter - both @HeySheDraws.
